What is a BCBA

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a trained professional who specializes in understanding behavior and teaching meaningful skills that improve a child’s daily life. Using principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), BCBAs help families better understand why behaviors happen and how to support growth in ways that are positive, respectful, and effective.

For children with Autism, OCD, ADHD, ADD, ODD, or other developmental and behavioral needs, a BCBA can guide families through challenges such as communication delays, emotional regulation, social skills, routines, and day-to-day independence. But their work goes far beyond strategies and plans, BCBAs partner closely with caregivers, listening with compassion and responding with empathy.

Through collaborative coaching, a BCBA observes children in their natural environments, which can beat home, school, or in the community and provides real-time feedback to help caregivers feel confident and supported. Together, they create individualized goals that fit the family’s values and lifestyle, ensuring that progress feels achievable and meaningful.

At its core, the BCBA–family partnership is built on trust. By working side-by-side, caregivers gain not just tools for today, but knowledge and confidence that empower them long-term. With the right guidance and a compassionate, collaborative approach, families can help their children thrive in every setting.
